Lingga - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dabo Singkep, Lingga Regency, Riau Islands, issued an early warning of potential or hotspots.

The head of BMKG Dabo Singkep, Sahat Mauli Pasaribu, said that this warning was issued considering that there had not been rain in the Lingga Regency area for almost 20 days since the beginning of February.

"In Lingga Regency in February this month, 2 hotspots have been observed. On February 5 and 17, due to the fact that it has not rained for 20 days," he told Batamnews, Thursday (18/2/2021) yesterday.

Thus, Sahat also appealed to the community not to open land by burning it. Especially at this time when hot weather hits the Lingga Regency area, so it is easy to trigger potential fires.

"In the next few days, the intensity of rain is also very rare, so the reeds that usually cover the forest floor are very dry and very flammable. Right now the wind is strong, 09-30 km / hour," he explained.

"We urge the community not to open plantation land by burning it. Then if you burn garbage near the forest or dry grass, please monitor it," he added.

In addition, he also reminded people not to carelessly throw cigarette butts on the side of the road where there are weeds or dry grass on the side of the road, so that fires do not occur.
