Batam - A tornado destroyed some buildings in the Puri Agung area, Tanjungpiayu, Sei Beduk, Batam on Thursday (1/10/2020) afternoon.

From some photos obtained by Batamnews, the worst damage was seen in Aisyah Puri Agung kindergarten and early childhood education buildings. You could see that the roof of the building was flown by a tornado.

Another photo showed a building in Puri Agung 3 block A RW 4 that has fallen off its roof. You could see a car unit crushed by the rubble of the roof.

"The incident occurred around 01.30 PM when heavy rain was accompanied by strong winds," said Sabrina, a resident of Puri Agung to Batamnews.

So far, it was not known whether there were any victims in the natural incident, including how many houses were damaged.

Meanwhile, the Batam Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicted that places in Batam and other areas in Riau Islands will have the potential for moderate to heavy rain that can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds.
