Karimun, Batamnews.co.id - A shocking arrest took place in Karimun District, Riau Islands Province (Kepri). DA, the child of the Deputy Regent of Karimun, was apprehended in connection to the distribution of methamphetamine weighing a total of 1.9 kilograms.

The designation of DA as a suspect was determined by the police after intensive investigations. Besides DA, three other suspects were also taken into custody, namely FA Alias GN, PN Alias PCK, and MR Als RN.

The narcotics unit of Karimun Police received news of this activity on August 3, 2023, from information provided by the community. During the arrest, the police seized two large packages of methamphetamine weighing approximately 1.9 kg and five small packages weighing a total of 40.1 grams.

Karimun Police Chief, ABKP Ryky W Muharam, in his statement on Monday (7/8/2023), said the arrest began with two individuals, which then led to the arrest of two others upon further case development.

Furthermore, it was mentioned that the methamphetamine was sourced from Malaysia and smuggled through local ports. This network is believed to be part of an international drug syndicate.

During a press conference held by the narcotics unit of Karimun Police, it was revealed that one of the four suspects was the child of a local official in Karimun. Although Police Chief Ryky confirmed this, he refrained from mentioning the name and position of the concerned official.

DA was said to have played a role as the receiver and keeper of the drugs. "MR was the one who ordered the drugs," the Police Chief disclosed.

The police are also currently pursuing BO, who is suspected of being involved in the drug smuggling from Pontian, Malaysia.

All suspects are charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) Subsidiary 112 paragraph (2) of the Indonesian Law No. 35 of 2009 on narcotics. The potential penalties faced range from 5 to 20 years imprisonment, life imprisonment, or even the death penalty.
