Batam, Batamnews - European countries are starting to dominate investment activities in Batam. This can be seen from the data on investment realization of Batam in the 1st Quarter of 2021.

Data sourced from the Investment Activity Report (LKPM) from the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) states that there are 3 Blue Continent countries that have experienced an increase in investment realization.

This was conveyed by the Head of the BP Batam Public Relations, Promotion and Protocol Bureau, Dendi Gustinandar on Monday (24/5/2021). He said the countries of European origin included, among others, Germany, France, and Switzerland.

“This trend has been going on in the last two years. We see that the attention of European countries to invest and export activities are increasing, "said Dendi.

Dendi said, of the 30 PMA countries registered in the LKPM in the 1st Quarter of 2021, the European countries that stood out were Germany leading with a total investment of USD 69.4 million and 7 projects, then France in the fourth position with a total investment of USD 19. 9 million and 4 projects, and Switzerland in the seventh position with a total investment of USD 2.1 million and 2 projects.

"Indeed, there are several other countries, such as Singapore, Japan, and Taiwan that have contributed. However, it needs to be our common concern that Germany succeeded in overtaking the value of Singapore's investment. This proves the positive prospects for Batam's investment performance in the eyes of European countries, "said Dendi

In 2020, Luxembourg, Germany, and Switzerland occupy the top 7 positions in foreign direct investment realization by country.

Overall, the value of the foreign investment in Batam increased 122.8 percent in the first quarter year on year (yoy), namely USD 76 million in 2020 and USD 171 million in 2021.
