Baby Lobster Smugglers Arrested at Batam Port

Batam - Three perpetrators suspected of smuggling baby lobster or seed were arrested by joint officers in Batam, Sunday (6/12/2020). Officers confiscated evidence of baby lobster smuggling in the form of three sacks of baby lobster.

"Meanwhile, the evidence has been detained along with the perpetrators," said Head of the Class I Port Authority and Port Authority Office Dumai Herwanto, Sunday (6/12/2020) quoted Batamnews from Tempo.

The sacks are believed to contain 40 thousand baby lobsters, each packed in white plastic. The baby lobsters were smuggled via the Pelni KM Kelud ship which sailed from Jakarta to Batam, Saturday (5/12/2020) in the early hours of the morning.

The baby lobster will be sent to Singapore by the sea with the final destination of Vietnam. A source who is aware of the smuggling said that the baby lobster will be transported to Singapore by speed boat after arriving in Batam.

Speed ​​boats, according to information, are chartered at a price of Rp. 50 million per ship. The source also said that the businessmen continued smuggling by sea.

"Because there is still demand from Vietnam," said the source. The smuggling was allegedly carried out once a week every Saturday morning.
