Tanjungpinang - Some regions in Indonesia, including the Riau Islands, are threatened with extreme weather due to La Nina. This condition can lead to the disruption of the supply of basic commodities.

Acting Governor of Riau Islands Bahtiar Baharuddin said according to calculations from the BMKG, in Riau Islands Province extreme weather changes began to occur with the La Nina phenomenon.

"For example, currently sea waves, especially in the waters of Anambas and Natuna, reach 3 to 4 meters," said Bahtiar during a meeting to discuss the risks of inflationary pressure and efforts to control inflation in the new normal ahead of Christmas and New Year and the northern wind season, Thursday (12 / 11/2020) night.

This natural phenomenon also caused high rainfall intensity accompanied by strong winds and results in high waves.

He hoped that the agency in charge of food security must prepare and anticipate it, especially for archipelagic areas not to be cut off from the supply.

Bulog, Pertamina, and other agencies in charge of the basic needs of the community, immediately send and supply people's needs until they are fulfilled.

"We have to learn from previous cases in handling the needs in this difficult time. Don't let the community have difficulty getting it," hoped Bahtiar.

Bulog added Bahtiar has guaranteed the availability of rice and other necessities provided by Bulog. However, Bulog was still coordinating when the shipment to this area.

"I ask Bulog to immediately push these staple goods to the regions, especially to Anambas, Natuna, and other areas that are shipped by ship. Of course, this is to anticipate extreme weather at sea," he said.

The governor also asked shipping services for both goods and people to be careful. Before traveling, it must be coordinated with the authorities in this voyage, such as the KSOP, the harbormaster, and also with the BMKG regarding this weather.

"On the other hand, we must be able to meet the needs of the community, but on the other hand we also have to think about safety together," he said.
