Batam, Batamnews - A foreign national named Timothy Pollinelly was found dead in his residence in Legenda Malaka Housing Complex, Batam Kota, Kepulauan Riau on Saturday (13/5/2023) night. Known to be friendly and amiable, Pollinelly's passing has left a sense of loss among those who knew him.

"He was fundamentally kind and friendly," said a colleague of Pollinelly to Batamnews.co.id on Sunday, May 14, 2023.

Pollinelly was an expatriate who worked at Palmspring, Sei Panas. He had previously been married to a local woman in Batam but later divorced. Following the divorce, Pollinelly was deported to Australia.

Subsequently, he returned to Batam where his employment situation became uncertain. His former wife, Wiji, had sold their house in Bella Vista after the divorce.

The case had legal complications at some point. Pollinelly then rented a house in Legenda Malaka, where he was found deceased.

"He was friendly. I saw him on Wednesday, and he seemed fine, greeting me. I didn't know him before, but he was polite," said a resident of Batam who had encountered him.

However, some people who knew Tim, as Timothy was often called, mentioned that he had been suffering from a long-term illness with complications. "He was a good person. He had been sick for a while, if I'm not mistaken, it was some sort of complication," said someone who knew him.

Police Investigate the Death of Australian National

According to the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Batam Kota Police, Ipda Hasmir, there were no visible signs of foul play on the victim's body. However, the presence of blood on the floor led the police to send the body to Bhayangkara Hospital of Kepri Regional Police for further forensic examination.

"The initial suspicion is that the death was due to illness, but we have sent the body to Bhayangkara Hospital for an autopsy. Once the results are available, we will provide an update," said Hasmir.

The police are still investigating the case of Timothy Pollinelly's death. Data and background information regarding the victim, who was a foreign national, are currently being collected for the purpose of the investigation.

Photos received by Batamnews depict the deceased lying on a sofa with his body partially slumped towards the floor. Timothy Pollinelly was wearing a purple shirt, while the surrounding floor was stained with blood.
