Natuna, Batamnews - A whale was stranded in Air Payang Village, Laut Island District, Natuna Regency, Riau Islands, on Wednesday (19/10/2022). 

Luckily, the marine mammal was rescued by residents.

"Yes, suddenly the whale was behind the house, near my house, stranded there," said Jumi, a resident, as reported by Batamnews from Antara.

He said after residents confirmed the whale was still alive, rescue efforts were made by herding it into deeper water.

"It has been rescued, turned back into the sea, still alive," said Jumi.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of the local sub-district confirmed that a stranded whale had been found in an injured condition and had been rescued by residents.

"Residents with National Search and Rescue Agency have helped the whale, there is a slight scratch on the whale's body, but it is safe," said the Secretary of the Sub-District of Laut Island, Hendri. 

"The color is black, approximately 4 to 5 meters long," Hendri said.
