Extreme Weather Triggers The Ship Bringing Illegal Immigrants to Johor Waters to Sink

Bintan, Batamnews - The Maritime Rescue Sub Center (MRSC) of Johor Bahru has still searched for illegal immigrants (PATI) from Indonesia who drowned in the waters of Tanjung Balau, Kota Tinggi, Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

Even related to the incident, the Tanjungpinang National SAR Agency (Basarnas) has also coordinated with the Malaysian Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC).

"We also received information and based on the results of our coordination with Johor Bahru that the incident occurred in Malaysian waters and not far from the Tanjung Balau coast," said Riyadi, Wednesday (12/15/2021).

According to information received, a 25-meter-long gray fishing rod with 4 outboard engines moved from Indonesia to Malaysia on Wednesday (15/12/2021) early in the morning.

At around 04.30 WIB, the boat entered the Tanjung Balau waters near Kota Tinggi, Johor Bahru. But unfortunately, the boat was hit by strong waves and strong winds so that it overturned.

Based on the weather forecaster in Johor Bahru, the waves reached 1.5 meters, and the wind was 30 km/hour at that time.

"As a result of the incident, 60 PMI who boarded the boat fell into the sea," said Riyadi.

Of the 60 PMI who were reported to be victims, 33 were found. However, only 22 people were found in a safe condition consisting of 20 men and 2 women. While 11 more people were found stranded on the beach in a dead condition. They consist of 4 women and 7 men.

"While the other 27 people have not been found. We don't know the details yet, how many are men or women," he said.
