Cement Cargo Ship Sinks in Batu Ampar Waters, 2 Crew Members Are Reported Missing

Batam, Batamnews - A wooden ship measuring 142 Gross Tonnage sank in Batuampar Waters, Batam, Sunday (19/9/2021) morning. Two crew members were reported missing.

The ship, named KLM Tirta Mulya's hull, leaked. The ship was reportedly loaded with cement.

From the information, the ship headed for the Batuampar Harbor pier to deal with the leak at that time.

Duty Manager of Basarnas Tanjungpinang, Miswadi said when heading to Batuampar port, the ship was able to continue sailing.

When the crew repaired the leak, more and more water came inside and eventually sank.

"There was damage to the hull of the ship, to be precise at the rear of the engine room," said Miswadi.

"There are two people who are suspected to have drowned and so far we have not found them," he said.

The Basarnas team, the TNI/Polri are still searching for the two crew members suspected of drowning. In the latest data, two crew members are missing, namely Andi Abdul Gani and Sopyan.
