Customs Officers Arrest Speedboat Smuggling iPhone Out of Batam

Batam - Batam customs officers stop the smuggling of hundreds of illegal electronic goods.

In a press statement on Friday (19/2/2021), the head of the Batam Customs and Excise Office, Susila Brata, said that it took place in Sekupang waters on February 8.

"At around 09.00 WIB, officers secured the ship containing hundreds of electronic goods and taxable goods (BKC) without excise stamps hidden on the wall and under the floor of the SB Rahmat Jaya 09 Speedboat," he explained.

This action was carried out by the Patrol Task Force BC 15028, Batam Type B Customs and Excise Main Service Office (KPU), and Batam Customs and Excise Operational Facility Base (PSO). Susila explained that the goods consisted of 348 units of electronic goods in the form of cellphones of various brands such as iPhones and others, laptops, and computers of various brands and types.

The officers also found other illegal non-electronic goods, in the form of 713 kretek cigarette slops without excise stamps, 108 bottles and 432 cans of beverage bottles containing various brands of ethyl alcohol without excise stamps and 70 pcs of laptop accessories of various brands.

The value of the goods is estimated at around IDR1.56 billion, with potential state losses amounting to IDR414 million.

The goods are suspected to be released from the Batam free zone to another place without customs documents

From this security, a man with the initials R (39) who acted as the captain of the ship was detained along with these items.

The chronology of the incident starting with a public report that said there would be an activity to load ex-FTZ goods from Tanjung Riau to Tembilahan using the SB Rahmat Jaya 09 speedboat.
