Batam - Hundreds of employees at two companies in the Muka Kuning (Batamindo) Industrial Estate were exposed to Covid-19. There was an option whether the Batam government should take steps to temporarily close operations in the area, a.k.a lockdown.

Head of Batam Manpower Office (Disnaker), Rudi Sakyakirti, said that his party was looking for the best solution to deal with the spread of Covid-19.

"If the policy is from the Task Force Team, now I am still talking and discussing it together," said Rudi, Tuesday (22/9/2020).

Many workers from two companies, namely PT Infineon Technologies Batam and PT Philips, have been confirmed as Covid-19.

Rudi said the two companies had taken steps to prevent the transmission of Covid-19. For example, by carrying out rapid tests and swab tests on employees and close contact with previous positive Covid-19 patients.

"One day they can have up to 700 employees, I think this week has finished. This number has exceeded the capacity of only 500 per day. So the company is also trying to control this virus in their company," he said.

Regarding the number of employees, Rudi said that PT Philips currently has 3,300 employees while PT Infineon has around 1,000 employees.

From the information it obtained, PT Infineon has taken a policy to ask all office employees to work from home (WFH).

Regarding the policy to temporarily close operations (lockdown) for the two companies, Rudi explained that it was the policy of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling Covid-19. Currently, his party is still in discussion with Batamindo.

"Still looking for a solution apart from the lockdown, it could be limiting the number of employees entering so that production continues. If the policy is not on me, that's the Task Force Team," he said.
