Batam, Batamnews - PLN Batam continues to innovate to provide the best service to customers by applying smart grid modernization technology to the electricity network in the form of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) technology.

To note, AMI is an integrated system starting from reading the kWh meter at the customer's place to issuing the customer's electricity account online and in real-time using fiber optic communication technology and Power Line Carrier (PLC).

Executive Vice President Commercial Division of PLN Batam, Fransis Al Zauhari explained that AMI began to be tested in 2018.

Currently, AMI has been implemented and installed as many as 3,876 kWh Meter AMI at the Nagoya Service Retail location. For 2021, bright PLN Batam targets as many as 6,000 kWh Meters of AMI can be installed.

According to him, the AMI installation is intended as a replacement for a one-way electronic electric kWh meter and is part of the development of an information technology-based electric power network or smart grid to improve service to customers.

With AMI there is no more meter reading errors because there is no longer a need for meter reading officers who come to customers every month so that customer privacy and comfort are not disturbed.

"Another convenience for customers is when making power changes, requests for temporary power additions (Party) can be made instantly," in a written statement, Wednesday (23/6/2021).

In the future, AMI technology will be further developed by combining electrical energy needs with internet packages so that it can function as a kWh meter as well as Wi-Fi broadband internet which is directly used for internet services. This technology can also be developed for billing for water meters or gas meters.
