Natuna, Batamnews - The carcass of a 'sea monster' known by residents as Gajah Mina in Natuna was finally buried by the police together with the BPBD of the Natuna Regency Government. The carcass fish was evacuated by heavy equipment.

Because of its size, a heavy excavator unit was deployed. The length reaches about 12 meters.

"It has been buried and evacuated," said Riky Rinovsky, a member of the Volunteer Rescue Team for the Natuna Marine Guard (Rapala), "Sunday (21/3/2021).

He also said that the fish was immediately buried because it gave off an unpleasant smell. Moreover, the size is quite large.

"The fish's stomach has been broken. The tail has seen as bones. It's the same with the fish's head," explained Riki.

The animal has been a hereditary story for coastal communities, especially in the Riau Islands region.

There are many stories from fishermen who often avoid Gajah Mina. Because if you meet in the middle of the sea it is considered a disaster.

Kadiskominfo Natuna, Raja Darmika believes that the animal is a whale. "It's a whale. The one with the ivory shape is the jaw. Gajah Mina is just a myth," said Raja Darmika.

"We don't have any experts here yet. So so far it has not been researched," he said.

Raja estimated that if the whale died and was carried to the coast, the carcass will be caught in a splint, a kind of fishing gear for coastal residents.

"Previously, we have also encountered whale bones that were stranded in several places. You can see the similarities," explained Raja.
