A Mysterious Sea Monster Found in Natuna, Residents Call It `Gajah Mina`

Natuna, Batamnews - A 12-meter long 'sea monster' carcass made residents in Natuna Regency, Riau Islands Province excited.

Residents of Kelanga Village, Bunguran Timur Laut District, Saturday (20/3/2021) called the object the carcass of Gajah Mina.

Gajah Mina is a mythological animal that develops in Malay society, especially in Natuna.

For elderly people in the Riau Islands, especially in Pulau Tujuh (Natuna, Anambas, Tambelan, and surrounding islands), Gajah Mina is quite famous among those who work as fishermen.

Gajah Mina is considered a disaster for every fisherman of Pulau Tujuh since a long time ago.

"Gajah mina has stranded in the waters of Kelanga Village," said the resident in the video.

Regarding the discovery in the waters of Sahi Island, Kelanga Village, the Head of the Natuna Regency Communication and Information Service (Diskominfo) Raja Darmika believes that the animal is a dead whale carcass that was carried to the shoreline.

The animal is caught in a splint (fishing ground) belonging to a local fisherman.

"Gajah Mina is just a mythical animal. What is clear is that in our opinion it is a whale carcass," said the King to Batamnews, Sunday (21/3/2021).

According to him, there are currently no experts in Natuna Regency regarding the phenomenon of this animal. So that there is no adequate scientific study.

"In plain view, it is a whale. What is said to be elephant-like ivory is a whale's jaw. We can see that from several similar incidents," he said.
