Sei Bati Karimun Reservoir Is Drying, PDAM Has to Schedule Its Service

Sei Bati Reservoir.

Karimun - One of the clean water sources belonging to PDAM Tirta Mulia Karimun, the Sei Bati Reservoir, has drastically decreased its volume.

The minimal intensity of rain has made the raw water supply in the Sei Bati reservoir threatened to dry up.

The surface of the reservoir was reduced to 2 meters. The water production process has shrunk by up to 50 percent.

Head of the Technical Section of Perumda Tirta Mulia Karimun Karimun, Irwanto said that the raw water in the Sei Bati Reservoir is not sufficient to be able to operate the existing pump.

"We have not been able to operate the pump due to drought," said Irwanto, Friday (12/3/2021).

Many Tirta Mulia Karimun customers were affected. Water does not flow smoothly as usual.

Tirta Mulia Karimun Karimun who manages the raw water must perform rationing or rotating the water distribution. This has been done since a few days ago.

The PDAM has also made efforts to supply water to the Sei Bati Reservoir with a quantity of 50 liters per second.

"Meanwhile, to anticipate its service to the community, we use water intakes from the Setani Reservoir with 50 liters of water per second. And we have been doing that since three days ago," he said.

However, water treatment production in the Sei Bati reservoir is still not running normally.

PDAM plans to supply water from the Pongkar Water Treatment Plant (IPA).

"Even though it is running for 24 hours, it is not sufficient for the community's needs. So that water supply will be carried out from water management from Pongkar," said Irwan.

PDAM can only distribute water to customers at certain hours.

"The customer community can collect water if the water flows and can use the water as economically as possible for several days the water does not flow," he said.
