Batam - In the last one month, 1.029 positive cases of Covid-19 were confirmed. This number showed a very significant increase compared to the previous months since the Covid-19 pandemic.

The head of the Batam Covid-19 Task Force health sector, Didi Kusmarjadi, admitted that the increase in the number of cases was due to the loose health protocols implemented by residents.

"People are getting slack in implementing health protocols in the new normal at this time," said Didi, Thursday (15/10/2020).

The task force team released 50 additional Covid-19 cases as of October 14, 2020, in Batam. The total cumulative case findings were 2,020 cases, of which 1,668 cases were declared cured, 58 died. There were currently 294 positive patients undergoing quarantine.

Acting Mayor of Batam, Syamsul Bahrum said, the increase in Covid-19 in Batam was due to the massive tracing process (contact tracing). According to him, this showed the performance of the task force team in tracking positive patients is more intense.

"If someone is exposed to only 50 people, then at least 50 people will be traced," said Syamsul.

According to him, what can be done at this time was to strive for the public to be disciplined towards health protocols, in addition to reducing the number of Covid-19 patients.

"We avoid no spread, increase the healthy growth rate and reduce the mortality rate," he said.
