Batam, Batamnews.co.id - Unpleasant incidents marred the 100th Anniversary celebration of McDermott at the Ocarina Tourist Area, Pasir Putih, Batam Centre, Batam, on Sunday, October 15. Several vehicles, primarily owned by employees of PT McDermott Batam, were subjected to tire deflation and intimidation by local residents.

Background of the Incident

On Sunday, October 15, the road leading from Simpang Bundaran Madani to Bengkong in the Pasir Putih area, Batam Centre, Batam, experienced severe traffic congestion. Thousands of McDermott employees' vehicles clogged the road, even overflowing onto the road's shoulders. This situation made it difficult for local residents to access their homes.

Actions Taken by Residents

In response, residents took matters into their own hands by deflating tires and intimidating the owners of improperly parked vehicles. AF, a wife of an employee at PT McDermott Batam, reported her husband being a victim of such actions. "I couldn't record when my husband was hit on the head with a hat, and there was also choking involved," she told Batamnews.co.id on Monday, October 16.

Chronology

According to AF, upon exiting to the parking area, they discovered multiple cars with deflated tires, both front and rear. "Residents immediately began verbally attacking us, saying, 'You're the idiot who parked here?' One man hit my husband's head with his hat," AF continued.

Responses from McDermott and Ocarina

Meanwhile, both McDermott and Ocarina have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. AF stated that her husband had apologized repeatedly and admitted fault for parking in that location, yet he still received harsh words from the residents.
