Batam, Batamnews - The repatriation of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in December 2021 to their homeland through the Batam Center International Port has increasingly been tightened. This was an effort to prevent the new variant of Covid-19, Omicron.

As is known, the Omicron variant has been found in Malaysia and Singapore. On Friday (10/12/2021), as many as 208 PMI returned to their homeland via Batam. The total PMI who returned to Indonesia in December was 7 thousand people.

The Covid-19 Repatriation Task Force, Danramil 03 Nongsa Kapt H.P Siregar said efforts to prevent the spread of Covid-19 for PMIs entering Batam, including spraying disinfectant on all PMI's belongings.

After that, all PMIs will have their body temperature checked at the arrival gate. Then they were told to wash their hands by keeping their distance and not touching each other.

"Then the sniffer dogs from the Customs and Excise were also dispatched to check PMI's belongings," said Siregar, Monday (12/13/2021).

Furthermore, PMI is also given the option to carry out self-quarantine or integrated with several conditions. They must undergo quarantine for 10 days to ensure PMIs are free from the Covid-19 virus. Following the SE Task Force Covid-19 no 23 of 2021.

"Later, we will ask if we want to self-quarantine or if we have the government, if we are independent, all costs are borne by themselves. Starting from the PCR and antigen stages at the port, the quarantine period, and the second PCR," he said.

However, some of the PMI had volunteered to self-isolate in their respective homes. However, the application was rejected, because it did not comply with the quarantine rules.

"If we give one person, later the information will be shared with the others. Everyone will ask for isolation at home. We have to follow the rules that have been set. There are two options, quarantine from the government and self-quarantine at a hotel that has been determined," he explained.

Meanwhile, Batam Center Port Health Office (KKP) Officer, Dr. Rosaline. Following government regulations, every PMI returning to the country must undergo quarantine in the arrival area, before continuing their journey to their respective regions.

Based on the prepared protocol, the newly arrived PMI must go through 2 tests, namely antigen with a negative result in the area of ​​​​arrival. Then the PCR test.

"This is called the first swab, the second swab will be carried out at the inn after 9 days of undergoing the quarantine process," he said.

He hoped that with 2 tests the PMIs who arrived in Batam were free from the Covid-19 virus.
