Batam, Batamnews - Pregnant women in Batam, Riau Islands have started getting the Covid-19 vaccination. A vaccine injection program was carried out at Bunda Halimah Hospital, Thursday (9/9/2021).

There are at least 400 pregnant women who participate in vaccinations sponsored by the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN). Each received the first dose of Sinovac vaccine.

The Head of the Riau Islands Province BKKBN Representative, Mediheryanto said that this declaration started from Batam first, with the reason that it took the most targets.

"After that, to the provincial level, the target is to go to the district and city levels. It doesn't just stop today. Today is just the start," he said.

The chairman of the Indonesian Obstetrics and Gynecology Association (POGI) Riau Islands Province, Dr. Yanuarman SpOG (K) KPM said pregnant women can already be vaccinated based on the Decree of the Minister of Health Number HK.01.07/Menkes/4638/2021.

"The cases of pregnant women who have been confirmed positive for Covid-19 in several big cities in Indonesia are in serious condition," said Yanuarman.

Therefore, according to him, efforts are needed to provide Covid-19 vaccination for pregnant women. This activity aims to protect pregnant women if they are infected with Covid-19.

"The types of vaccine recommended are Sinovac, Pfizer, and Moderna. Then it doesn't have to go through the approval of a gynecologist," he said.
