Oxley's Failed Project in Batam: Has Costed Out IDR 200 Billion of Consumer Money

Batam, Batamnews - The chaos of the Oxley Convention City Project until it stalled and changed its name to One Avenue became the attention of the Batam DPRD.

Hundreds of consumers from Batam have suffered losses of up to hundreds of millions of rupiah.

Batam DPRD will even forward this issue to the Singapore consulate. This is because the project involves a foreign developer from Singapore.

As is known, Oxley Convention City was carried out by PT Oxley Karya Indo Batam (OKIB) which is a joint venture of Karya Indo Batam (KIB) and Oxley Batam Pte Ltd (an indirect subsidiary of Rich Capital from Singapore).

Problems between KIB and Rich Kapital have emerged since 2019. This project was never finished.

The Batam DPRD Commission I previously held a Hearing Meeting (RDP) with related parties.

Secretary of Commission I, Lik Khai confirmed that he would forward the case to the Consul General of Singapore in Batam.

"The money that has entered Oxley is around Rp. 200 billion," said Lik Khai when he was in his room, Wednesday (1/9/2021).

From the results of the RDP, it is known that Oxley Convention City wants to be taken over by PT Wiwoa Miti Karya Batam, changing its name to One Avenue.

However, the transitional project still encountered various obstacles, one of which was not having a Building Permit (IMB). There have been about 500 consumers who have purchased Oxley products.

"They (Wiwoa) want to take over, but do not complete their responsibilities to consumers who have paid," he said.

Lik Khai also regretted the action of PT Wiwoa Miti Karya Batam which gave 2 choices that were detrimental to consumers.

If the consumer wants to be repatriated, the money will be paid in 36 installments, or the construction can be continued.

For the second option, the cost of the apartment has increased by about 30 percent from the previous price.

If the consumer does not agree with the second option, then the consumer's money will be forfeited.

"PT Oxley declared he failed. This is funny. When PT Wiwoa Miti Karya Batam took over, they should have completed PT Oxley's obligations," he said.

His party has asked DPM PTSP not to issue a new IMB letter. He even supports BP Batam to revoke this land permit.
