Singapore to Support 1 Million Advanced Covid-19 Tracing Tools for Batam

Bluepass, Covid tracing tools.

Batam, Batamnews - The Singapore government plans to help deal with Covid-19 by providing 1 million tools in the form of BluePass. This tool is used to track Covid-19.

The plan for the BluePass tool was conveyed during a coordination meeting with the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore through a zoom meeting, Friday (13/8/2021).

"Singapore plans to help 1 million BluePass devices, but we must first learn how the tools work," said Batam Secretary Jefridin.

He said, during the meeting, Singapore was very open to cooperate in the use of the BluePass tool for tracing close contacts of Covid-19 patients to reduce the number of transmission cases.

"We will first report it to the Mayor (Batam Mayor, Muhammad Rudi) as the decision-maker," he said.

He explained that the 1 million units of equipment provided were adjusted to the population of Batam. Where the plan will be applied to all residents of Batam.

"The way it works is using Bluetooth, which can detect other Bluepass users," he said.

So that when there is a positive confirmed case of Covid-19, it can immediately detect anyone who has contact with someone who is confirmed positive for Covid-19.

"This tool can detect distances of up to 3 meters," he said.

With this plan, Jefridin said his party welcomed it. However, there must be a more technical discussion regarding the other required electronic devices.

"Of course there are devices that need to be supported, this needs to be discussed again, this BluePass tool has also been used in the tourist areas of Lagoi and Bali," he said.

To note, BluePass is a tracing tool or close contact tracing of Corona-positive patients. BluePass has been tested first for all employees of the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore. The BluePass tool itself was developed by D'Crypt, a technology company founded by Temasek Holdings.

BluePass is made with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology which is considered suitable for contact tracing. Besides being safe to use, BLE technology is energy efficient and allows BluePass batteries to last 12 months.
