Eateries are Threatened to be Closed if They Don

Deputy Mayor of Batam, Amsakar Achmad said that his party apologized to restaurant and entertainment service managers for being able to strictly implement health protocols.

"We ask the manager to reduce seats by 50 percent, according to the requirements of the Minister of Home Affairs and the Batam Mayor's circular letter," said Amsakar after the socialization of the implementation of the prokes.

On that occasion, Amsakar notified the restaurant and entertainment service managers about adjusting this new rule until Monday (24/5/2021). After that, if the violation will be given sanctions.

The sanction, said Amsakar, could be in the form of a warning letter (SP) for the third time, and the threat of closure of the business premises. Furthermore, regarding fines regulating prokes regulated in Perwako number 49 of 2020.

"Monday we will monitor it, by a team from the sub-district," he said.

Amsakar said that this quick action was taken because the Covid-19 cases in Batam, Riau Islands (Kepri) continued to increase significantly. It even received special attention from the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo.

During his visit to the Riau Islands, Jokowi instructed regional leaders that the graph of Covid-19 cases in Riau Islands and Batam could decrease.

"But the team will continue to work for the next month," he said.

Kapolresta Barelang, Kombes Pol Yos Guntur said that Batam was in a red zone. For this reason, the Covid-19 task force team will not work optimally if supported by the community.

"In the future, we will tighten the health protocol, please cooperate," said Yos to visitors and the management.
