Jakarta, Batamnews - The Chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Megawati Soekarno Putri, officially announced Central Java Governor, Ganjar Pranowo, as the party's presidential candidate on Friday (21/4). The announcement was made during the 140th DPP PDIP meeting attended by President Joko Widodo and several PDIP cadres virtually.

In the announcement, Megawati stated that the appointment of Ganjar Pranowo as the PDIP's presidential candidate took place on Kartini Day, which she believes is a milestone in Indonesia's struggle for equality and non-discrimination guaranteed in the country's constitution. The announcement was marked with the utterance of bismillahirrahmanirrahim at 13:45 at the Batu Tulis Palace.

Before this official announcement, PDIP Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto had asked all PDIP cadres to always be ready to await commands regarding their party's presidential candidate.

Hasto emphasized that the decision related to the presidential candidate would be announced by Megawati Soekarno Putri at the right moment, so all cadres must continually prepare themselves ideologically and structurally.

Ganjar Pranowo is a long-known PDIP cadre who cares about the people. As the Governor of Central Java, he has implemented various pro-people programs and successfully improved the welfare of the community in his region.

It is hoped that his success in leading Central Java can be well-applied if he is elected as the PDIP's presidential candidate. Prior to PDIP, the NasDem Party also announced Anies Baswedan as a presidential candidate. NasDem is in coalition with the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and the Democratic Party.
