Batam, Batamnews - The tragedy of the sinking of a ship carrying illegal immigrants from Indonesia to Malaysia some time ago was certainly very regrettable. This incident opened the eyes of many people that the practice of human trafficking has still been rife.

A member of the Riau Islands DPRD (Kepri), Uba Ingan Sigalingging, believes that this disaster would be a hard slap at the end of the year for the UPT of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) Tanjungpinang and the Riau Islands Police.

"We should regret this accident and grieve. This is a form of failure by the police in supervising the occurrence of disasters," said Uba, Friday (17/12/2021) night.

He saw that this accident was one of many sending illegal workers abroad. This was also considered odd because the sending of illegal TKI in large numbers can go undetected.

"If we look at this incident, it's as if one sent could not be an accident, usually there are others. The question is, what is Ditpolair (Police) doing under the auspices of the Riau Islands Police?" he said.

Uba also agrees with the Head of BP2MI, Benny Rhamdani, who said that that was a serious crime and must be investigated and investigated properly.

Therefore, Uba was more concerned with the upstream issue of sending illegal workers. The number of exits or small ports was not an excuse, but the police should already have data regarding who were involved in sending illegal workers.

"Whatever the reason, this cannot happen, in other words, this is a very heinous and serious crime. This is something that we think will become an important note at the end of the year for the Riau Islands Police, especially Ditpolair because its intelligence function is supposed to work," he said.
