Batam - As many as 10 foreign fishing vessels (KIA) caught in the illegal fishing case in the Riau Islands area were sunk by the Batam State Prosecutor's Office. This activity has been carried out since Wednesday (3/3/2021).

The activity of the old ship sinking was heard. It seems that the method used in the era of the former Minister of KKP RI, Susi Pudjiastuti, remains a role model.

Moreover, this method is considered effective in providing shock therapy for the perpetrators of illegal fishing. Meanwhile, the sunken shipwreck can become FADs for breeding fish.

The sinking of the foreign vessel was carried out in Air Raja Waters, Galang, Batam, Thursday (4/3/2021), and was witnessed by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), Antam Novambar.

The case of KIA that was drowned has been 'decided' by the fisheries court and has permanent legal force.

Kajati Kepri, Hari Setiyono explained that the execution was carried out with an environmentally friendly process, so that the shipwrecks could become FADs for breeding fish.

"This method is considered the safest, carried out by sinking the ship, according to the sea lanes determined by the authorities," he said.

A total of 5 foreign fishing boats were destroyed by drowning. The day before, 4 foreign ships were sunk.

"Five ships sunk, for one ship almost sunk at the PSDK dock, only the bridge is left," he said.

The 10 foreign fishing vessels (KIA) that were sunk consisted of 8 ships with the Vietnamese flag, namely KG 95786 TS, BD 30919 TS, BD 30942 TS, KG 94376 TS, KG 94654 TS, TG 9481 TS, TG 9437 TS and 2 ships flagged Malaysia namely SLFA 4654 and Karang 6.

Hari added that the execution of these foreign ships can be carried out in synergy with relevant officials, and Batam becomes a pilot project (pilot project) in Indonesia.

He hopes that other regions in Indonesia, especially Kepri, can carry out synergy for the execution of foreign ships with permanent legal force. "In Riau Islands, there are still Natuna and Karimun, who will be able to follow today's execution," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Batam State Prosecutor's Office, Polin Octavianus Sitanggang added that by sinking these 10 foreign fishing boats, all the booty has been finished.
