Natuna - Several fishermen from Sedanau, West Bunguran Subdistrict, Natuna Regency were anxious about the activity of the trawlers that enter the fishing area of local fishermen. The ship's activity damaged the FADs made by local fishermen.

Djoko Suprianto (42), a fisherman, complained about some longan boats entering their fishing area. Many fishermen-made FADs broke up and were damaged as a result.

Djoko and several other fishermen tell about this incident every year when the northern season arrives.

"We are fishermen in Sedanau, when the weather is extreme like today, we cannot go far to see. For this reason, we deliberately made artificial FADs in our catchment area which is not far below 30 miles," he said.

During the northern season, where the north wind makes waves in the high sea, it is the artificial FADs that become their support, local fishermen looking for fish. This is because they cannot go far out to sea.

John Aprianto (33), another fisherman, is very upset with the trawler's actions. "Only one day we installed FADs, we had not had time to reap the results, our FADs were damaged," he said.

Local fishermen in Sedanau only use boats with an average rate of only 1-2 Gross Tonage (GT), and they also lose out in terms of traditional fishing gear. They are confused about where to complain.

Natuna fishermen who are still left behind in their fishing gear are worried that their livelihood will be eroded. They also held a rejection demonstration at that time.
