Batam - A corpse floated under the Barelang Bridge I, Wednesday (16/9/2020) afternoon. The sighting was reported by residents at around 16.00 WIB. Several videos circulated on social media.

The residents said the floating corpse was seen that afternoon. Nearly an hour or so, the corpse caught the attention of the residents, while waiting for officers to evacuate.

"It was floating there almost an hour or so," said a resident.

Finally, the police officers came and evacuated the body, as well as tracing its identity.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Batu Aji Police, Iptu Thetio Nardiyanto said that the identity of the corpse was known to be Khusein (45) who lives at Mekar Wangi Number 14, RT 007/005 Kampung Seraya, Batu Ampar, Batam.

"The body was found by the witness who was sitting in front of his house in the village of Pulau Akar. From a distance it looks like a human corpse floating in the sea," he said.

The two witnesses went to ensure by approaching using a canoe boat.

"It turned out that it was a human corpse, then the witness contacted the police," he said.

Currently, the corpse is in Bhayangkara Hospital. The police have not provided further information regarding the results of the post mortem and the cause of the tragedy.
