Batam - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) RI, Basuki Hadimuljono reviewed Monggak Dam in Rempang, Batam, Riau Islands, Monday (9/3/2020).

This review was carried out to see the readiness of Monggak Dam in fulfilling the water needs for infectious disease observation sites in ex Vietnam Camp.

Minister Basuki said that his office had surveyed several locations, including a reservoir in the former camp site of Vietnam itself. However, the water capacity from the reservoir is inadequate at 0.1 liter per second.

"The water capacity is inadequate," said Basuki.

Whereas the water demand in the ex-Vietnam observation camp is 3.5 liters per second. Then finally chosen Monggak Dam to meet the water needs of the observation site, because its capacity reaches 230 thousand cubic meters.

"We have communication with BP Batam, we ask for 5 liters per second for observation needs," said Basuki.

Basuki explained, Monggak Dam was actually prepared for water needs on Batam Island. But for the first time it was utilized for the needs of observation in the Vietnam camp.

"This (dam) has not been utilized, but is prepared to (meet water needs) Batam," he said.

Previously the water requirement for the observation site would be taken from the Sei Gong reservoir. However, Basuki said that the reservoir water cannot be utilized because it is still in the desalination stage.

"Still waiting a few times the rainy season can only be fresh," he said.
