Batam - The Main Meeting Room (Rupatama) of the Riau Islands Regional Police (Polda) caught fire on Thursday (7/23/2020) afternoon at around 14.35 WIB.

Head of Public Relations of the Riau Islands Police, Police Commissioner Harry Goldenhardt said the accident occurred in the second-floor room. "An AC short-circuit occurred," Harry told Batamnews when it has been confirmed.

Harry mentioned the incident was handled quickly so that the fire did not spread wider. Polda members immediately put out the fire using water cannon.

"The incident was at 14:35 WIB, was extinguished at 15.00 WIB," said Harry.

The partially visible ceiling collapsed due to burning. While other items such as chairs, tables, and others are still intact.

There were no victims in the incident. When this occurred the room was empty. While material losses are still unknown. "Thank God there were no victims," said Harry.
