Karimun, Batamnews - Tanker MT Young Yong ran aground in Singapore Strait near Nipah Island, Takong Kecil, Batam City, Riau Islands Province will be evacuated.

The Djibouti-flagged tanker is said to be carrying 284,429 tons of black oil. The problem is that the location of the waters is known to be a Singapore gas pipeline.

The incident of the aground MT Young Yong GT 153.911 was known since October 27, 2022, at 20.00 WIB.

The ship, which was 320.28 M x 58.00 M x 26.84 M, ran aground on 2 gas pipelines owned by PT Medco Energy and PT Transgasindo Energy. The two companies are known to supply 60 percent of the gas to Singapore.

MT Young Yong departed from Tanjung Pelepas Port, Malaysia, heading to Nipah Island, Batam City, Riau Islands, on October 18, 2022.

Tanjungbalai Karimun Class I Kesyahbandaran dan Otoritas Pelabuhan or KSOP (KSOP- Harbormaster's Office and Port Authority), together with the company, the ship, and the ship's agent held a joint meeting at the Integrated Service Office on Sambu Island, Monday (31/10/2022).

Head of KSOP Class I Tanjungbalai Karimun, Jon Kenedi said that his team discussed the evacuation of the tankers.

"We have met twice, on Saturday, and today we have a technical meeting for handling to evacuate the aground tankers," said Jon Kenedi.

From the joint agreement that was held, the evacuation of the tanker with a length of more than 3 times the size of the soccer field will involve several parties.

They will conduct an underwater investigation to see the condition of the part of the ship that ran aground on the gas pipeline. The tanker's cargo is planned to be moved.

"Of course, we have to be careful, so the teams will be involved in conducting a survey, and tomorrow the evacuation will be carried out immediately," Jon said.

He said that at the moment, his team will focus on evacuating the tanker that ran aground.

"The ship's cargo will be transferred to other ships, and two ships are prepared. So, after the cargo is reduced, the ship can be pulled and evacuated to a safe location," he said.

He hopes the evacuation can run well. Currently, he said, the position of the ship is still relatively safe.

"Hopefully, this will go well so that nothing unwanted happens, although, at the moment, it can still be said to be safe," Jon said.

The ship ran aground in the waters of Nipah Island at the coordinates 1' 07.670 N / 103" 42.940 E.

The ship, loaded with 284,429 tons of oil, also carried 25 crew members, including the skipper.
