Batam - Hundreds of scrap metal scavengers rallied in front of the Batam Sucofindo office branch on Raden Patah Street in Lubuk Baja on Monday (7/27/2020) morning.

The protest was held because there were no entrepreneurs who bought their scrap metal due to many containers being held at Batu Ampar harbor.

For about an hour the scavengers held a protest in front of the Sucofindo office. Until finally the representative from the scavengers who entered for negotiations with Sucofindo left after receiving an explanation.

The person who was responsible for the protest, Lambok Pardede said he and his metal scavenger friends asked Sucofindo to check the containers that were being held at Batu Ampar harbor so they could be sent to their destination.

"We as scavengers, if the goods from the entrepreneurs cannot be sent, they don't want to buy our scrap iron anymore. So the goods from scavengers have not been sold anymore, right they can't send. So the impact is there, "Lambok said after meeting with the Sucofindo Batam.

Lambok said, the absence of entrepreneurs who bought their initial results had been going on for a month.

"Earlier we agreed that they would work. They were very good at responding to us, tomorrow they will immediately check, "said Lambok.

Meanwhile, Head of Sucofindo Batam Branch, Ambar Prawidiyanto, who met the scavenger representative, explained that his side had never intended to delay investment in Batam, as told by the scavengers.

"We have told the representatives that we will inspect scrap iron weighing which is already at the harbor because we have to help them too," he said.
