Batam, Batamnews - A number schools in Batam, Riau Islands have stopped teaching and learning activities following the finding of positive cases of Covid-19 among students.

Two schools are known to be located in Belakang Padang Subdistrict, namely SMP Negeri 1 Belakang Padang and SD Negeri 04 Sekanak Raya.

Head of the District, Yudi Admadji, who was confirmed, said that this positive Covid-19 case came from a family cluster.

"This family's father works at the airport (Hang Nadim)," said Yudi, Tuesday (30/3/2021).

Other family members, namely his wife and three children, were finally exposed. Three children each 1 go to SMP Negeri 1 Belakang Padang, 1 student at SD Negeri 04 Sekanak Raya, and one is still a toddler.

"They are all without symptoms and are now being treated at the Belakang Padang Batam Hospital," added Yudi.

He said that the Covid-19 Task Force Team had currently traced this case and while there were still no new cases.

Meanwhile, the two schools have now been closed for 10 days starting from March 24 to April 2, 2021.

One other school that has stopped teaching and learning activities is SMP Negeri 43 Batam.

The information received was that the school was closed because one of the students had symptoms of Covid 19. The news spread through social media.

When Batamnews visited SMP Negeri 43 Batam in the Baloi Permai area, Batam, there was no activity at the school.

The school was quiet and no students were studying. 

A man who claims to be the school's security prohibits journalists when they want to confirm news about students who are said to be affected by Covid-19.

"Orders from superiors, no one should enter this school for a while," said the school security, Tuesday (30/3/2021).
