Batam - Labor groups emphasized that they would continue the national strike action plan for three days as a form of rejection of several issues in Cipta Kerja Bill (RUU Ciptaker).

This was conveyed by the President of the Confederation of Indonesian Workers Unions (KSPI) Said Iqbal on Saturday (03/10/2020). He said the KSPI firmly rejected the employer's accusation that the strike was illegal.

He stated that the national strike was carried out in accordance with Act no. 9 of 1998 concerning Freedom to Express Opinions in Public and Act no. 21 of 2000 concerning Trade Unions / Labor Unions in particular Article 4 which states that one of the functions of trade unions is to plan and implement strikes.

This action could not be separated from workers' dissatisfaction with several issues discussed in Omnibus Law. Seven issues were said to be very detrimental to workers in the future. Starting from UMK (Minimum Wages) and UMSK (Regional Minimum Wages), severance pay, lifetime contract employees, lifetime outsourcing, working time, leave and wage rights for leave, as well as health insurance and pension benefits for outsourcing contract workers.

"Of the seven issues resulting from the agreement, workers strongly refused. For this reason, as many as 2 million workers have been confirmed to carry out a national strike located within their respective companies," said Said Iqbal.

At least 32 federations and confederations in Indonesia have decided to hold a national simultaneous demonstration called the national strike. Later, various other elements of the trade union also expressed their support and were ready to take part in the strike.
